For this distinctive portrait, our customer chose a dark and dramatic moulding, with the sheen from its painted satin finish effectively mirroring the varnished picture's dark background:

We added a thin gold slip moulding inside the frame to pick out the highlights in the picture.

Slip mouldings are also a great way to add extra detail to a frame, and look as effective with traditional ornate picture frame mouldings as they do with simple contemporary ones.
