This rusty nail is an incredible relic from H.M.S Elefant - Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801.
It was brought in by a customer who was gifted the nail and wanted to have it on display while preserving the metal. Our professional framers used a transparent thread to hold it in place, so no harsh adhesives were used which could damage the object.
We made a bespoke spacer so the nail was sat back from the glass in a box frame; by using the black mount on the back and sides, we created a seamless box.
The custom name plate was made to sit inside the frame with the information about the ship on.
The frame we chose (ref:332900) was from the Larson Juhl Foundry collection as it was very similar in colour to the nail, and has a textured surface to give it an industrial finish.
To finish the frame, we used Tru Vue Ultra Vue - a low reflective glass which makes such a difference, especially when framing an object.
