Butterfly Wu - contemporary red frame
This movie poster features Hu Die, also known by her English name Butterfly Wu, a popular Chinese actress during the 1920s and 1930s.
She was a true screen phenomenon of the time and starred in the first Chinese talking motion picture. She went on to have a career that embraced Cantonese and Mandarin movies in pre- and post-World War II, both in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
