Butterfly Wu - contemporary red frame

This movie poster features the most famous movie star of 1930's Shanghai: 'Butterfly Wu' (Hu Die).

She was a true screen phenomenon of the time and starred in the first Chinese talking motion picture. She went on to a career that embraced Cantonese and Mandarin movies in pre- and post-World War II in both Shanghai and Hong Kong.

We chose a contemporary red frame (150635000) from the Larson Juhl Confetti collection to surround two black core mounts with a thin red reveal. This combination of colours is popular with both classic and contemporary Asian artwork as these are common colours used throughout the region.
