Framed Oil Painting of Arctic Ship

This picture of a ship in Arctic waters was painted on a board - rather than a canvas - so stretcher bars weren't required.

Instead we carefully positioned it inside a custom sized piece of foam board which is the Fine Art Trade Guild's preferred fixing method for this type of artwork, as the surrounding board stops it from moving without the need for harsh adhesives which would likely damage it.

Traditionally, oil paintings are 'close framed' meaning that, once stretched, they are placed straight into the wooden frame. These days, mounts and glass have become a popular addition; as the glass helps to protect against surface damage, and mounts add detail and create a more contemporary look.

With our computerised mountboard cutters, we can be creative with shape, size and colour. For this piece the customer decided on a double mount: snow white over an icy shade of pale blue. Together with the mottled colours of the moulding - reminiscent of the steel structures on a ship - the result is a traditional display with a fresh twist.

Every single one of our bespoke framing projects is always finished to the highest possible standard, and sealed at the back to help prevent any future damage to the artwork.
