Framed Ceramic Poppy by Paul Cummins

It's been a pleasure to frame the many red ceramic poppies which have been brought to us over the years, not least because the artist Paul Cummins is from our town, Chesterfield!

These 'now iconic' pieces of art which together comprised the stunning art installation 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' at the Tower of London can be framed in all sorts of different ways however they all need a picture frame moulding with a rebate deep enough to accommodate the dimensions of the ceramic. Alternatively, we can create a deep enough rebate by adding one to a moulding which otherwise wouldn't be deep enough but is the exact colour and style our customer is looking for.

This red moulding from our Komodo range was a perfect choice for the poppy but unfortunately it wasn't deep enough. However, attaching another moulding behind it, which was deep enough, solved the problem. The deep rebated moulding - which you can't see in this picture - was black and worked so well with the black window mount that we left it that colour rather than painting it in a matching red.

All our ceramic poppies are sewn in place using two or three stitches maximum so they can be taken back out again should the customer wish to; no adhesives are used at all.

Framed against a black undermount, alongside its certificate, we think this turned out to be a very striking display.
