This antique painting was belongs to a good customer of ours who brought it in for framing recently.
As it was very valuable, the framing was not only a form of decoration but also protection; we were able to safeguard the edges of the painting by using an archival sealing tape on the rebate of the frame. This prevents the oil painting sticking to the inside of the frame over time and damaging the surface.
The frame we chose was from our Traditional English Range which are all handmade to order, so we were able to design the colour and pattern in line with the customer's requirements.
This profile is a 3" wide swept frame with a repeating pattern in the decoration, and unlike most swept frames, the corners were kept as a solid shape.
The gold leaf is added by hand once the decorations have set and dried, so every part of the frame is covered neatly with bright gold leaf.
Spring clips are used on canvases as they use pressure to hold the wooden frame in place rather than nails or strong adhesives which could damage the canvas.
Our framers have years of experience with framing valuable artwork and we have built up a good relationship with customers who are now confident in leaving paintings with us. Please get in touch if you are interested in a framing project of your own.
